I am a contemporary, conceptual photographer living in Napa, California, one of those amazingly lucky people who discovered their heart’s desire at the age of five, when I received a Kodak Brownie camera for my birthday. I grew up in New York, and had the benefit of living in the country, surrounded by trees, frogs and ponds; while also spending most of my teenage years traveling to New York City to learn about the history of art from museums and the reality of art from the streets.
I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from Humboldt State University, in Arcata, California, where I specialized in fine art photography. I continued my education at the State University of New York at Stony Brook where I received my teaching certification in Art Education. I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching photography and helping to expand the vision of my students in New York and California.
My photographs bring together much of my love for the early 20th century artists who experimented with surrealism and abstraction, as well as the avant-garde photographers of the early 1920’s and 30’s. My current explorations into abstract photography have been directly influenced by the inspirational works of Harry Callahan and Minor White.
I exhibit throughout the United States, most recently at Artexpo, New York and at Spectrum, during Art Basel, Miami. I was awarded public art installations in Napa, California in 2012 and 2013. I have had the great pleasure of being the artist-in-residence at Starry Night in New Mexico in 2014 and 2015, and in Budapest, Hungary at the Hungarian Multicultural Center (HMC) in 2015. My work is currently part of an international exhibit in Budapest and at a world-wide, collaborative exhibit sponsored by the HMC and the state of Texas.
I am an ardent advocate for arts education for children, believing intensely that a fully realized adult must be educated in the art of creativity. Towards this end, I have served on the Board of Arts Council Napa Valley for the past three years, and have recently been elected Chair. My agenda is to continue to forward the exposure and acceptance of all forms of artistic expression to local, national and international communities.
